State Rep. Liz Linehan and U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes have recently shared their struggles trying to get rapid-result COVID-19 tests when they suspected they were ill.
Hayes has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Linehan, who was ill, ended up not having COVID-19, but it took her 24 hours and driving around to multiple testing locations for her to find out, she said.
“The test was negative,” she said, “and so was the experience.”
Linehan said she is concerned that if someone as well versed in Connecticut’s COVID-19 response as she is couldn’t find testing, how are community members and elderly residents faring?
“What about those who don’t have the time or means to drive around all of creation?” she opined. “We need more tests. We need to make it easier to get the tests.”
Hayes, who announced having COVID-19 on Sunday, Sept. 20, has been posting daily journal updates to her Facebook page about how the virus is affecting her personal health, home- and work-life.
Hayes said she had to go to three testing locations before she could get an appointment for testing.
“My experience and the experience of my staff underscores the need for a national testing strategy with a coherent way to receive speedy accurate results,” Hayes said.
